How to save an industrial company €81,000 a year on energy, penalties and power factor

Taplast, a manufacturer of plastic packaging and dispensing closures for the cosmetics, household and food industries, had meters installed on site, but they were not networked. Nobody read or evaluated the data. The company decided to gain a real overview of its plants’ energy use and turn it into savings.

Starting point

We understand the segment's challenges

Where costs and risks really arise in this environment, and why you cannot see them without metering.

01

Existing infrastructure, no data

The plant had meters installed, but they were not networked. The data was neither read nor evaluated.

02

Reliable industrial communication

Communication lines across large production halls need careful topology design and signal verification. Without them, data collection drops out.

03

Exceeding reserved capacity (MRK/RK)

Without active monitoring, power peaks mean automatic penalties from the distribution system operator, discovered only on the invoice.

04

Machine consumption out of sight

The energy use of individual machines and transformer stations was unknown. You cannot manage what you do not measure.

Project scope

What we deployed on the project

  • 800 m communication line across two production halls
  • 25 metering devices connected online
  • 28 electrical devices installed in total
  • Replacement of the original network analysers in the transformer station
  • Edge device, VPN remote management, cloud analytics, AI reporting, AI prediction and maintenance

Concrete benefits · real findings

What the system delivered in practice

01

Correcting an inefficient power factor: €20,000/year

Monitoring revealed a persistently low power factor. After correction, the system eliminated the distribution operator’s surcharges for reactive power. Savings identified: about €20,000 a year.

02

Preventing reserved capacity penalties: €12,000/year

Automatic monitoring of demand peaks gives a warning before the reserved capacity is exceeded. The penalties avoided amount to about €12,000 a year.

Your challenges · our answers

What it means for a manufacturing company

Existing meters without a network connection

Networked over Modbus RTU, data available online immediately

Long communication lines across halls with no guarantee of reliability

Expert topology design, signal verification, stable data collection

Why Nidex Technology

Four reasons, each proven in practice

01

End-to-end responsibility

From design, hardware supply and installation to data integration, inspections and support. One supplier, one point of responsibility.

02

Technical precision and standards

We design in line with the Slovak standards STN 33 2000 and STN EN 61439. We issue statutory inspection and test reports (OPOS) with our own staff.

03

References in regulated environments

Healthcare, industry, state infrastructure: environments with higher demands on accuracy and reliability.

04

Based in Central Europe

We are based in Nitra, Slovakia, about two hours from Vienna and Budapest, and know the local legislation. Fast response, one team from design to service.

Proposed next steps

Three steps from a meeting to the first results

  1. 01

    Technical meeting

A visit to the selected building. We define the scope, priority locations and constraints.

  2. 02

    Indicative quote

An indicative price based on the agreed scope. Presentation of the technical design.

  3. 03

    Pilot project

Deployment in one building. Verifying functionality, integration and training the operators.

Conclusion

Why it makes sense

Deploying the monitoring and analytics system brought Taplast identified annual savings of €81,000: in preventing penalties, correcting the power factor, optimising production and setting up energy contracts. What used to be invisible is now measured, managed and reflected in costs. Networking the existing infrastructure proved to be an investment with a quick payback.
