Electricity sub-metering at the Presidential Palace

The Presidential Palace (Grassalkovich Palace) needed a modern, reliable energy monitoring system to track consumption and the key parameters of its electrical network in detail. The solution had to meet strict security requirements and respect the particular constraints of a historic building.

Starting point

We understand the segment's challenges

Where costs and risks really arise in this environment, and why you cannot see them without metering.

01

Strict security requirements

The solution at the Presidential Palace had to meet strict security requirements. A wireless Wi-Fi network was out of the question.

02

Historic building, limited cabling

Running new communication cables in a significant historic building was severely limited, with no interference with its historic fabric.

03

No sub-metering by part of the building

Without sub-metering, it was impossible to track the consumption of individual parts of the building or the key network parameters.

04

Demands on metering accuracy

The building requires accurate measurement of voltage, current, active and reactive power and power factor at all significant supply points.

Project scope

What we deployed on the project

  • 7 three-phase electricity analysers
  • Some in the main switch room, others directly in the building’s rooms
  • Coverage of all significant supply points
  • Modbus communication, peer-to-peer architecture in a private APN
  • Industrial edge controller: local aggregation and visualisation
  • Data transfer to the higher-level monitoring system

What the system delivered in practice

01

Metering without interfering with a historic building

A private APN and peer-to-peer Modbus replaced both the impossible new cabling and Wi-Fi, which was unacceptable for security reasons. The installation respected the historic fabric of the Presidential Palace.

02

An accurate overview of key network parameters

Three-phase analysers measure voltage, current, active and reactive power and power factor at all significant supply points: the basis for transparent control of consumption.

Why Nidex Technology

Four reasons, each proven in practice

01

End-to-end responsibility

From design, hardware supply and installation to data integration, inspections and support. One supplier, one point of responsibility.

02

Technical precision and standards

We design in line with the Slovak standards STN 33 2000 and STN EN 61439. We issue statutory inspection and test reports (OPOS) with our own staff.

03

References in regulated environments

Healthcare, industry, state infrastructure: environments with higher demands on accuracy and reliability.

04

Based in Central Europe

We are based in Nitra, Slovakia, about two hours from Vienna and Budapest, and know the local legislation. Fast response, one team from design to service.

Proposed next steps

Three steps from a meeting to the first results

  1. 01

    Technical meeting

A visit to the selected building. We define the scope, priority locations and constraints.

  2. 02

    Indicative quote

An indicative price based on the agreed scope. Presentation of the technical design.

  3. 03

    Pilot project

Deployment in one building. Verifying functionality, integration and training the operators.

Conclusion

Why it makes sense

The energy monitoring project at the Presidential Palace showed that modern sub-metering can be deployed even in the most sensitive public sector buildings: safely, without interfering with the historic fabric and with full accuracy. Nidex Technology delivered a turnkey solution, from design and installation to data integration, which gives the building manager a transparent overview of the Presidential Palace’s consumption.
