Project summary

  • Sub-metering in residential buildings
  • Integration for three apartment buildings
  • Modbus RTU

The project built an electricity sub-metering system in individual buildings, with an emphasis on smart data collection and integration into a central monitoring system.

The technical solution consisted of installing electronic electricity meters with a Modbus RTU interface, which allow measured values to be read digitally and transferred directly to the higher-level system. Metering covered 7 metering points in three separate buildings, and 12 devices were installed to provide full functionality (electricity meters, protective devices, data concentrators, converters and power supplies).

Implementation

The implementation took the form of modifications to the existing sub-distribution boards, into which new metering devices with direct digital communication were integrated. LE-03MW electricity meters with a Modbus RTU bus were fitted in the boards, and each metering point was given its own protection to ensure reliable operation. For stable operation of the communication system, 24 VDC power supplies and the corresponding converters were added, connecting the individual devices efficiently to the bus.

After installation, the electricity meters were configured, addressed and added to a shared bus. A functional test and a communication test with the higher-level system followed to verify that the transferred data was correct. In total, 7 metering points were added to the system and 12 devices installed, providing continuous sub-metering of electricity consumption in the individual buildings.

Technically, the implementation followed the requirements of STN 33 2000 and took into account not only safety but also future expansion of the system. The result is a complete, scalable metering system that provides accurate data available online and allows further processing in higher-level monitoring and control platforms.

Results

  • 7 metering points
  • 12 electrical devices installed
  • Successful networking and stable communication
  • Real-time electricity consumption metering

Sub-metering was delivered at 7 metering points, with 12 devices installed (Modbus RTU electricity meters, power supplies and converters) integrated into the existing switchboards without major modifications. All devices were connected to the Modbus RTU bus, configured, tested and verified for accuracy and reliability. The work was carried out in line with STN 33 2000, including protection, cabling and inspection. The result is a system that provides accurate, centralised energy consumption data as a basis for effective management and cost optimisation.
