Electricity monitoring in the furniture industry

Client
Furniture manufacturer in the region of Fiľakovo
Project objective
Smart metering of electricity in a manufacturing plant
Summary of the project

Within the project, smart metering of electricity was implemented in the company’s production facilities Ekoltech, operating in the furniture industry in the region of Fiľakovo. The aim of the project was to extend and upgrade the existing metering system to a single platform enabling real-time monitoring of electricity consumption and tracking of key parameters of the electricity network.

The solution is based on the deployment of three-phase power analysers, which ensure accurate measurement of electrical quantities in accordance with IEC 61557-12. Data acquisition and local processing is performed by means of a Revolution Pi edge device, while existing measurement equipment has also been integrated into the system.

The installation of the analysers took place in substations RM7 and RM9. Wiring, power supply, protection and cable routing were carried out in accordance with the applicable standards STN 33 2000-4-43 and STN 33 2000-5-52. Emphasis was placed on clear installation, correct configuration of communication parameters (Modbus RTU) and unambiguous marking of all wires and components according to IEC 81346-1.

Implementation

The project involved the comprehensive implementation of a smart metering system for electricity in a manufacturing company Ekoltech. The solution included the design of the system architecture and installation of metering equipment, building of communication infrastructure, configuration of data acquisition and commissioning of the system.

The system has been expanded to a total of 28 metering points covering the main feeders and major process taps. Company Nidex Technology s.r.o. within the project carried out the installation of three new three-phase power analysers, including their wiring, configuration and integration into the existing infrastructure.

Communication between the measuring devices is provided via Modbus RTU with unambiguous addressing of individual analyzers. Collection, aggregation and local processing of measured data are realized by the edge device Revolution Pi with backup power supply. Data transmission to the higher-level monitoring system is via a corporate VLAN.

Results

The implementation of the project provided the manufacturing company with a comprehensive and reliable smart metering system that provides a continuous overview of the consumption and basic parameters of the power grid in real time. Centralized collection and processing of data from all metering points allows the client to work with uniform and verified data across the entire enterprise.

The system creates a solid basis for better management of energy flows, identification of inefficient withdrawals and optimisation of electricity costs. At the same time, it enhances control over the quality of the supplied electricity and provides the technical basis for further development of energy management and expansion of monitoring according to the future needs of the client.
