Summary of the project
Our company participated in the implementation of the intelligent electricity metering system in the representative premises of the Grasalkovič Palace, which is the seat of the President of the Slovak Republic. The primary objective of the project was to build a modern and reliable energy monitoring system that will enable detailed monitoring of consumption and key parameters of the power grid. At the same time, the project was designed to meet stringent security requirements and respect the specific constraints of the historic building.

Implementation
The solution was based on the installation of seven Selec three-phase power analysers, which provide accurate measurement of voltage, current, active and reactive power, as well as power factor. Some of the analysers were installed in the main substation, while others were installed on the premises of the palace to cover all the major consumption points. The devices were interconnected via the Modbus communication protocol, using a peer-to-peer architecture within the private APN of the mobile operator’s network. This technology was chosen as the optimal solution in an environment where the routing of new communication cables was severely limited and the use of a wireless Wi-Fi network was not an option due to security risks.
At the data processing level, the Revolution Pi industrial edge-controller was deployed to perform the role of local aggregation and visualization of measured values. The transmission of the measured data to the higher-level monitoring system is ensured via Teltonika communication units, which use a secure data connection in Telekom’s private mobile network. The entire system has been supplemented with protection and power supply elements, including fusing devices, terminal blocks and clearly routed power supply circuits. The cabling was implemented in cable trays with an emphasis on clearly marking all conductors and components, which facilitates future management and maintenance of the system.
Results
The implementation of the project resulted in a fully functional, safe and technologically advanced smart metering system. The new infrastructure enables accurate and continuous monitoring of consumption in individual parts of the building, provides the operator with reliable data for optimising energy management and at the same time promotes transparency in the management of operating costs. The project has successfully combined the historic character of the building with state-of-the-art measurement and data transmission technologies, creating a system that meets the requirements for long-term reliable operation and represents a significant step towards more efficient energy management of a nationally important facility.
